The Caboose Baby: 2 Months

Bitsy at 8 weeks

The second month went faster than the first.  Sort of like "I blinked and it was over" fast.  Bitsy is growing and learning and we are loving every second of it.  Our entire family dotes on her and thinks she can do basically no wrong.  And at 2 months old, we are right!  She can do no wrong!

She's morphing out of the sleepy little newborn stage and starting to entertain us with sweet coos and smiles.  She hates tummy time with the fire of one thousand suns, but we still insist she lives through a little bit every day.  Her former hatred of the baby swing has turned into a lasting, committed relationship for nap times.  She loves to look at faces.  It can be her own reflection, pictures of other babies, or her family.  She just smiles and "talks" so sweetly!

She is probably the best sleeper we have ever had.  It's not saying much, considering that she is up 3 times between 9 at night and 8 in the morning.  But it is better than the others were at this age.  We are hopeful that she will drop a feeding soon.  She isn't difficult even though she wakes up frequently.  She wants a diaper change and a feeding, then she is perfectly happy to go right back to sleep.  I don't really mind, honestly.  It's a sweet, fleeting time that I can spend with my baby.  She is still sleeping in her Fisher Price Rock n' Play, but we think she'll be ready to move to her Pack n' Play bassinet when the time comes.

We've mastered her diaper stash.  Since she's a very heavy wetter, we seldom use cotton.  She does much better with bamboo or hemp.  I've embraced the prefold for the first time since Drengen was a baby.  I still love our Peachy Greens and Bottom Bumpers the very most. But, since they are a small part of her current size, I have found that Thirsties Hemp Prefolds and covers are a great option for us.  I also recently started using some of the new GroVia Bamboo prefolds and I really like those as well.  Since I've tried to keep her "tiny" diaper stash small, I do wind up washing about every 18 hours or so.

She is still an eating super champion.  She nurses about every 3 hours during the day, and usually every 4 at night.  We aren't planning adding any other nutrition any time soon.  She's thriving on what nature intended and I feel pretty blessed that I'm able to provide exactly what she needs.  I don't have any "official" stats, but on the lactation consultant's scale she was a little under 12 pounds last Tuesday.  She goes in for her 2 month check up on Wednesday (I think?).  She is outgrowing a good many of her 0-3 month sized clothing and is moving into 3-6 month sizes.

We've been so pleasantly surprised at how well our older children have handled having a new baby in the house.  We have our moments, but for the most part Drengen and Lille Pige would rather jump off of a cliff than give Bitsy back.  Lille Pige loves to interact with her and often mimics everything I say to her.  She's learning valuable Momma Lessons!  She also enjoys helping her "play" and holding her.  Drengen is more than happy to pack her around while I make dinner and has recently learned how to give her the occasional bottle (we try to give her some expressed breast milk every few days).  Next up? Diapers!  It's a huge help to have them both!

We are ready for our third month with our sweet Caboose Baby!

  1. So glad she is doing well!! I hope she drops a feeding soon for you. We have been lucky as well that so far (I have no expectations since I know that will jinx me) with the sleeping. it's a TON better than with Gabby.
